RAVEN Lopez 

Raven Lopez is a vibrant young women in her community.  Raven is eighteen years old and she lives in the borough of Brooklyn.  Raven attends Brooklyn South shore high school and is a senior preparing for college at Simmons University; Raven wants to be a Special Education certified Teacher working with children.  Raven’s passion grew due to her experience as a child that was born HIV Positive and having to utilize the NYC board Of education system as a child diagnosed as learning impaired.  Raven was also diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss due to multiple infections she incurred during her early childhood.  Raven was discriminated upon by teachers during her early school years due to he HIV status and she also faced harassment and stigma from her peers at school.  Due to her determination to strive and learn Raven held a press conference at one of her high schools in the Bronx where she once lived with her family.  Raven took a stand against stigma and discrimination by coming forward as an HIV Positive youth by educating her community as a speaker.
Raven first addressed a crowd of over fifteen hundred individuals working in the field of HIV care and prevention and those living with HIV /AIDS at the NYS AIDS institute Annual conference in May 2000.  Raven was well received.  Raven became a certified youth educator on HIV and AIDS awareness for the NYS names quilt.  Raven is a community speaker for Abbott laboratories.  Raven is a youth advisor  to NYS AIDS Institute Youth Advisory Committee on Quality Of Care.  Raven’s work have been featured in POZ magazine, HIV Plus , sixteen , NY daily news and The New York times.  Due to her tirless effort Raven was honored in September 2007 at the New York Apollo theatre by SAC AIDS organization as one of the most aspiring young woman living with the HIV virus.  Raven is a community speaker for Life Beat Stops AIDS volunteer program.
Raven continues to raise the awareness of HIV prevention and education for infected youth via her tireless work as an advocate for her peers.
